eBay Inc. enables commerce by delivering flexible and scalable solutions that foster merchant growth.

eBay delivers the world’s largest online marketplace to customers via any connected device, connecting people with the things they need and love.

With more than 100 million active users globally (as of Q4 2011), eBay is the world's largest online marketplace, where practically anyone can buy and sell practically anything. Founded in 1995, eBay connects a diverse and passionate community of individual buyers and sellers, as well as small businesses. Their collective impact on ecommerce is staggering: In 2011, the total value of goods sold on eBay was $68.6 billion -- more than $2,100 every second. We are in the midst of one of the most profound shifts ever in commerce. Technology is fundamentally changing how consumers behave all over the world. Five years ago we only “connected” to the Internet when we sat in front of a laptop or desktop computer. Today we connect to the web seven days a week, 24 hours a day through our smartphones and other connected devices. This is impacting every dimension of our lives, including how we shop and how we pay.

When I became CEO in 2008, smartphones were still more novelty than an essential part of our lives. Today, eBay and PayPal are mobile leaders, driving $13 billion and almost $14 billion, respectively, of mobile commerce and payments volume in 2012. In yesterday’s e-commerce world, having a package delivered to my house in two days for free was innovation. Today, having a product delivered to me in an hour is an expectation.

In stores, restaurants, and other physical retail environments, the pain of checking out is being transformed into the fun of checking in, with no wallet required. This is how fast commerce is changing.
A commerce revolution is under way. We believe that the pace of innovation will only accelerate, which means extraordinary changes are ahead. A new era is emerging. Consumers expect a seamless web-enabled, multichannel and multiscreen commerce experience. Technology is changing the interface of retail, and redefining the competitive landscape.

For eBay Inc. this means more opportunity and more ways to innovate, to engage consumers, to take the friction out of commerce and to help retailers and brands of all sizes compete and win.
We are no longer just an e-commerce company. We are a global commerce platform and payments leader, enabling consumers to shop and pay virtually anytime, anywhere. And we view ourselves as partners, not competitors, for merchants of all sizes, from entrepreneurs and small businesses to global brands and retailers. We are helping them to compete in this new commerce environment.
Generating Strong Results
We are playing offense from a position of strength. In 2012, our company enabled more than $175 billion of commerce volume. That’s the power of eBay Inc.

In 2012, net revenues increased 21 percent to $14.1 billion, compared to $11.7 billion in 2011, and operating cash flow was $3.8 billion. Net income was $2.6 billion, or $1.99 per diluted share.
We have built a strong portfolio with our three core business units: Marketplaces, PayPal and GSI Commerce.

And we continued to strengthen our capabilities in 2012 with acquisitions that enhance our ability to innovate. We believe that our company is well positioned to enable the future of commerce.
Let’s look at the strengths and opportunities in each of our businesses.Connecting buyers and sellers
Marketplaces had a great year in 2012, driving 11 percent revenue growth to $7.4 billion. Our core Marketplaces business is thriving, and ended the year with 112 million active users. We had over 350 million listings on all of our eBay.com platforms as of December 31, 2012, and fixed price listings accounted for almost 70 percent of gross merchandise volume globally in 2012. Excluding vehicles, gross merchandise volume was up 12 percent versus 2011.

We launched a new eBay logo in 2012, delivering a cleaner, more contemporary look and feel. We also
introduced more intuitive, convenient ways to browse, decide and buy, and create more personal, curated shopping experiences. Together, these changes reflect the new eBay and our evolution as a marketplace that connects people to the things they need and love.
